TRUNKLINE GAS RECEIVES FERC ORDERS FOR RESTRUCTURED SERVICES AND TWO RATE CASES

HOUSTON, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Trunkline Gas Company announces it has received draft orders relating to Trunkline's compliance filing for restructured services under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Order 636. In addition, FERC has issued an order approving settlement of Trunkline's 1992 rate case and a draft order modifying several rate- design issues relating to a 1989 rate case.
These orders, along with Trunkline's recent LNG minimum bill settlement, will allow Trunkline to offer gas producers, merchants and gas consumers new transport services at more competitive rates.
"While the draft order on Trunkline's Order 636 compliance filing will require further analysis, we are generally pleased with the order, which in many ways is consistent with compliance orders issued to other Panhandle Eastern Corporation pipelines," said L.B. Gatewood, Trunkline president. "Taken together, these three actions by FERC pave the way for Trunkline's full and complete implementation of restructuring under Order 636 this fall."
The two rate-case orders resolve all historical Trunkline rate case and rate design issues. Trunkline is currently preparing revised filings in compliance with the directions FERC gave in the orders.
Interstate natural gas pipelines are required by FERC Order 636, which FERC issued in April 1992, to unbundle their traditional merchant service and provide separate transportation and storage services.
FERC previously issued orders related to Order 636 services for Panhandle Eastern Corporation's three other interstate natural gas pipelines: Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, Algonquin Gas Transmission Company and Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company.
"With the issuance of Trunkline's orders, Panhandle Eastern Corporation becomes the first and the largest integrated pipeline network to receive Order 636 compliance orders for all its pipeline systems," Dennis Hendrix, PEC chairman and president said. "Implementation of the restructured services will allow the company's four, interconnected pipelines to go forward and compete in the new 636 environment, offering flexible services across our pipeline network."
Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, Algonquin Gas Transmission Corporation, Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company and Trunkline Gas Company are subsidiaries of Panhandle Eastern Corporation (NYSE: PEL), which operates one of the nation's largest interstate natural gas pipeline systems, providing natural gas to the Midwest and Northeast markets.
