TRUCKS ROLL UP SALES INCREASES FOR NORTHEAST OHIO AREA FORD DEALERS

CLEVELAND, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Sales of trucks got the 1994 model year off to a fast start for Ford dealers in Northeast Ohio.
Dealers sold more trucks than cars in October compared to last year -- 2,573 to 2,073, resulting in a 50 percent truck sales increase for the month compared to October 1992.
The Ford Ranger compact pickup truck recorded the largest sales hike in October -- 202.9 percent for the 4x2 model and 133.3 percent for the 4x4 version. The Ford Bronco posted a 93.8 percent sales increase.
October car sales edged up almost one percent at Ford dealerships compared to last year, led by a hefty 70.9 percent sales jump for the Ohio-made Ford Thunderbird. The Ford Escort and Ford Festiva turned in sales increases of 39.6 percent and 28.6 percent, respectively.
Ford Motor Company's (NYSE: F) total vehicle volume increase of 10.2 percent in October exceeded the year-ago level for the 23rd consecutive month.
"Ford's total truck volume last month, 146,806, was the highest ever for an October," said Ronald Tillier, manager of Ford Division's Pittsburgh Sales Region, which covers Northeast Ohio. "It's also significant that almost every one of our car lines made a positive contribution to our October performance. This indicates solid momentum that is broad-based, not just the result of a few 'hot' products. And it buoys our dealers' optimism for further market share gains in the months ahead."
