 Canyon Road.

Cossairt was driving north when he apparently lost control of his vehicle after coming out of a turn. The crash spilled the pesticide chlorpyrifos on the pavement and the dirt shoulder.

Fire officials said the chemical was cleaned up in less than two hours.

Officials with the state Office of Environmental Safety responded to assist in the handling and cleanup of the chemical.

The pesticide is used to kill termites and other insects; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  in 2000 called for phasing out its use in residential settings.

In people it can overstimulate the nervous system, causing nausea, dizziness, confusion and at higher exposures respiratory paralysis and death.

The chemical that was spilled on the roadway had been diluted, according to CHP CHP Chapter
