CASTAIC -- Summertime isn't here yet, but the living is easy and the fish are jumping at Castaic Lagoon lagoon

Area of relatively shallow, quiet water with access to the sea but separated from it by sandbars, barrier islands, or coral reefs. Coastal lagoons have low to moderate tides and constitute about 13% of the world's coastline.
.

John Marascalco, 76, was among about a dozen fishermen on hand Friday for the lagoon's twice-monthly stocking with quick-biting rainbow trout rainbow trout

Species (Oncorhynchus mykiss) of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae) noted for spectacular leaps and hard fighting when hooked. It has been introduced from western North America to many other countries.

Marascalco, who shaded his face with a towel wrapped around a straw hat, co-wrote Little Richard Little Richard, 1935–, American musician and singer, b. Macon, Ga., as Richard Wayne Penniman. Now the Mississippi native prizes his fishing time.

"It's my only escape," Marascalco said while casting his line and throwing back trout too small to keep in his icebox.

"If I were to put every one in right now, I'd be home in two minutes," he said. "And I waited two weeks to go fishing."

The California Department of Fish and Game released 3,380 trout into Castaic Lagoon on Friday. It's a move that's repeated twice every month from January to May, said Ken Robledo, manager of the Sylmar hatchery hatchery

As the trout were trucked to the lagoon Friday and pumped into the water, some errantly headed for shore and flopped onto the sloping concrete boat launch.

Wearing a black leather cowboy hat, Mel Rodney, 52, "wrangled" the fish back into the water. Then he clapped and exulted, "OK, now to go fishing."
