turned out to be the worst thing to happen to USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. , at least on Thursday night.

The Trojans, admittedly physically worn down or insufficiently motivated following their Sunday win over the Bruins, turned in a mediocre effort against Oregon and lost 73-61 before 2,725 at the Sports Arena.

``We just started getting confidence and momentum and had the whole school behind us,'' USC forward Nick Young said. ``We had no legs. We spent a lot of effort on the floor against UCLA. Everybody was hyped after that game.''

It's not the first time USC stumbled after an emotional victory. The Trojans beat Arizona at the Sports Arena on Feb. 2 then lost to Arizona State two days later.

said. ``We have a lot of energy against big teams and then don't come back hard.''

Young, who scored 14 points, was also frustrated by Oregon's intense focus on him, perhaps since the Ducks did not need to worry about injured guard Gabe Pruitt Gabriel Michael Pruitt (born on April 19, 1986 in Los Angeles, California) is an African American basketball player with the Boston Celtics. USC coach Tim Floyd Tim Floyd (born February 25, 1954) is the current head coach of the University of Southern California men's college basketball team. Floyd is also a former head coach of several teams in both the NCAA and the NBA.  admitted the Trojans missed Pruitt and just about every other aspect of their game Thursday.

``We miss (Pruitt) every night. We are who we are,'' Floyd said. ``We couldn't stop them. We had no post defense whatsoever.''

Oregon center Ray Schafer scored an unexpected 13 points while guard Malik Hairston Malik Hairston is an American college basketball player at the University of Oregon. The 6'6", 200 pound junior guard averaged 13 ppg and 6.1 rpg during the 2006-2007 season. High school

, who scored eight points in the first meeting, rebounded with 18 this time, 16 of them coming in the final 12 minutes. Guard Aaron Brooks led the Ducks with 20.

``Schafer wore us out,'' Floyd said. ``There was too much Hairston, Brooks and Schafer.''

With Washington State losing to California earlier in the evening, USC (16-10, 7-8) blew a chance to clinch sixth place in the Pacific-10 Conference and allowed Oregon (13-15, 7-9) to move within a half-game. The top six teams do not have to play a first-round game in the Pac-10 Tournament.
