TRITON COMPLETES COMPREHENSIVE BUSINESS REVIEW AND FILES AMENDED FORM 10-Q

DALLAS, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Triton Energy Corporation (NYSE: OIL) today reported that based on recent management decisions regarding non- strategic assets and the results of an interim audit of its financial statements for the nine months ended Feb. 28, 1993, the company has filed an amended Form 10-Q with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the quarter and nine months ended February 28, 1993.
The amended Form 10-Q reflects that for the quarter ended Feb. 28, 1993, the net loss was $70.4 million, or $2.05 per share, compared to a net loss of $47.6 million, or $1.38 per share, as reflected in the unaudited financial statements included in the Form 10-Q previously filed. For the nine month period, the net loss was $76.1 million, or $2.23 per share, compared to $53.3 million, or $1.56 per share, as reflected in the earlier filing.
Thomas G. Finck, chief executive officer, said, "With our new management team now substantially in place, we initiated a comprehensive review of all assets, operations and investments. Our objective is to assure that our resources are focused in those areas, such as Colombia and Thailand, that we believe offer the greatest potential return to Triton's shareholders."
The company requested that Price Waterhouse perform a nine month audit to assist management in its review. In addition, said Finck, "We believed that an early audit would be appropriate in light of Price Waterhouse's appointment after the end of the third quarter." The audit adjustments related principally to a further writedown of certain oil and gas properties and non-strategic assets.
