James Anthony Abbott (born September 19, 1967), is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the California Angels, the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox, and the Milwaukee Brewers, from 1989 to 1998.
is looking forward to his next pitching assignment.

The left-hander benefited from the Angels' first triple play in 19 years Sunday and broke his 11-game losing streak, leading the Angels past the Minnesota Twins The Minnesota Twins are a professional baseball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Twins are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the Twins have played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.  4-2.

Abbott (2-15) struck out three and walked none in six innings in his first appearance with the Angels since a demotion de·mote

``I really feel good about coming back to the locker room tomorrow,'' said Abbott, who hadn't won since May 2. ``It's just going out pitching and trying to enjoy it. If there's one thing this year has taught me, it's just that. It's very satisfying.''

Abbott, who had never pitched in the minor leagues before this season, was in trouble in the sixth inning when the Twins tied the game at 2-2 and had runners on first and second with no outs.

    That's when Ron Coomer

        , starting the triple play.

``In baseball, you just have to let it happen,'' said Howell, who was playing even with the base. ``The ball took me to the bag, and it was a no-brainer. Then I heard (shortstop Gary) DiSarcina calling for a triple play.''

After retiring Paul Molitor for a force at third, Howell threw to second baseman Rex Hudler, whose relay to first baseman J.T. Snow easily retired Coomer.

``He played where he's got to play,'' said Coomer. ``It was the logical place.''

        A lucky place, too.

``One pitch to get out of a pretty good jam there,'' said Abbott, who said he'd never even seen a triple play. ``That's awesome.''

It was the Angels' first triple play since July 23, 1977 - also against the Twins. That was the last time Minnesota had hit into a triple play. The Angels have turned five triple plays in their history, three of them against Minnesota.

After the triple play, Howell homered on the first pitch of the seventh inning by Frank Rodriguez (13-12). It was Howell's eighth home run of the year and put the Angels ahead 3-2.

Notes: Chuck Knoblauch did not start after being hit by a pitch on his left forearm Saturday night. . . . Jim Edmonds made his first start of the season at designated hitter and went 0 for 4. . . .
