Level I was for contestants age 12 or younger and Level II was for contestants age 13 though 18. Bobbs won both the Level I instrumental competition and the Level I piano competition. Second place in the Level 1 instrumental competition went to violinist Sammy Moraes, 10, of Sherman Oaks; while William Alden, 12, of Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Second place went to Carissa Gibson, age 14, of Palmdale on violin. Kaplan won the Level II piano competition. Second place went to Siranoush Soukiassian, age 17, of Burbank. Winners in both levels received $200 for first place and $100 for second place. The concert following the recital will include Bizet's Farandole far·an·dole n. 1. A spirited circle dance of Provençal derivation. 2. The music for this circle dance. [French, from Provençal farandoulo; akin to Spanish farándula from ``L'Arlesienne,'' Prokofiev's ``Peter and the Wolf'' and Mussorgsky's ``Pictures at an Exhibition.''
