TRIDENT MICROSYSTEMS ANNOUNCES NEC DESIGN WIN FOR DESKTOP COMPUTERS.


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 1995--Trident Microsystems announced today it has received a purchase commitment from Nippon Electric Companies (NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

Trident's hardware and software supports NEC's current PC-98 platform, a leading design architecture in Japan, in addition to supporting NEC's Windows-based offerings.

NEC will incorporate the Trident devices into its broad line of PC product offerings. The TGUI9680 accelerator will be integrated into NEC's PC9821 series of desktop computer products.

The TGUI9680 device is a single-chip, 64-bit GUI and video accelerator that can overlay a true-color (24-bit) live video display onto a graphical image of any color depth. The TGUI9680 accelerator integrates an on-chip 135 MHz pixel clock and 24-bit true-color RAMDAC (Random Access Memory Digital to Analog Converter) The VGA controller chip that maintains the color palette and converts data from memory into analog signals for the monitor.
