TRIDENT AND ALI INTRODUCE FIRST DDR/SDR BASED INTEGRATED 3D GRAPHICS CORE LOGIC NOTEBOOK SOLUTION.

Trident Microsystems Trident Microsystems is a supplier of display-processors for flat panel displays (plasma, LCD, etc.). At one time, Trident was also a supplier of PC graphics chipsets and sound controllers. , Inc. (Nasdaq:TRID TRID Training Requirement Identification Display

) and Acer Laboratories Inc. (ALi), have announced CyberAladdinT, the industry's first DDR/SDR based integrated 3D graphics chipset supporting future Intel Pentium III The successor to the Pentium II from Intel. Introduced in the spring of 1999 at 500 MHz, the Pentium III architecture was similar to the Pentium II with the addition of 70 new instructions optimized for multimedia (see SSE).  Processors built on Intel's industry leading .13 micron process for the portable market.

CyberAladdinT is the optimum integrated solution on the market bringing enthusiast 3D gaming experience to the mainstream notebook PCs. CyberAladdinT's unique and flexible architecture offers choice of DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

CyberAladdinT's, the latest creation resulting from the continued partnership between Trident and ALi, further strengthens the two companies' relationship. Succeeding a series of successful predecessors including the 3D/DVD video integrated chipset CyberBlade Aladdin i1 in 2000 and the DDR/SDR based 3D graphics chipsets CyberAladdin and CyberMAGiK in 2001, the CyberAladdinT addresses the burgeoning integrated graphics/core logic segment of the notebook PC market. CyberAladdinT's DDR/SDR based 3D integrated graphics Refers to having the video display circuitry of a computer contained directly on the motherboard rather than on a separate plug-in card (the display adapter). Integrated graphics typically share memory with the CPU (see shared video memory) and provide a more economical alternative to the  chipsets will once again raise the bar in the mainstream portable segment by providing an unprecedented level of price/performance ratio.

The Integrated graphics/core logic portable market is forecasted to grow from 2.7 million units in the year 2000 to 16 million units in 2002, corresponding a growth from 9% to 53% of the total portable market respectively, according to Mercury Research Inc., of Scottsdale, Arizona. It is also the fastest growing segment of the PC market.

Customer samples for CyberAladdinT will be available in Q3 2001.
