TRIAD ACHIEVES BEST-EVER 1ST QUARTER REVENUES OF $34.6 MILLION

TRIAD ACHIEVES BEST-EVER 1ST QUARTER REVENUES OF $34.6 MILLION
LIVERMORE, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Triad Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: TRSC) continued its emergence as an information provider, paced by a 17 percent growth in Information Services revenues and a resurgence in domestic systems sales in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991.
Those two factors contributed to record first-quarter revenues of $34.9 million, 9 percent above the $32 million reported in the first quarter last year. Triad's highest first quarter revenues had been $33.1 million in 1990.
Operating income of $3.9 million was 20 percent better than the $3.3 million in the same period last year. Earnings per share rose to 3 cents on net income of $334,000, compared to 1 cent and $84,000, respectively, in 1991. First quarter 1992 earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes improved 8 percent to $6 million from $5.6 million a year ago.
Revenues from recurring monthly services, including information products and support services, were $19.5 million, compared to $19.1 million in 1991. Systems revenues of $13.3 million were a 26 percent improvement over the $10.6 million achieved in the first quarter last year.
Triad President and Chief Executive Officer James R. Porter said the 29 percent improvement in domestic automotive systems revenues reflects healthier market conditions than those of a year ago. He noted, however, that international systems sales continue soft, especially in Canada.
"Retail Hardgoods revenues increased 55 percent over the same quarter of last year," Porter added, "with our Eagle series of systems introduced last April continuing to enjoy a favorable market reception. Sales of our Electronic Catalog product for True Value customers also exceeded expectations in the quarter, and we've sold nearly 130 of the units since it was introduced a year ago."
Porter said the retention of existing customers and the addition of new customers through the sales of new systems are key factors in the company's strategy of increasing the number of potential outlets for Triad's information products.
"Our recent acquisitions of loadSTAR systems and certain assets of Ultimate Inventory Solutions also fit our growth strategy," Porter said, "as do sales of our LaserCat workstations to customers who have systems from our competitors."
Porter said that at the end of the first quarter, more than 20,000 domestic automotive counter positions were utilizing Triad's information products and services.
Winner of the 1991 Total Quality Award from the Information Technology Association of America, Triad is a leading provider of business and information management solutions for the automotive parts aftermarket and retail hardgoods industry. Utilizing Triad's unique databases, the Information Services organization is the company's fastest growing unit. Triad's turnkey computer systems are supported by a nationwide customer services operation and lease financing.
