TREE PLANTING AT BOTANIC GARDEN WILL HONOR LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPS.

In commemoration of the local all-star baseball All-Star Baseball is a baseball video game series developed and published by Acclaim Entertainment. The series began in 1998 with the release of All-Star Baseball '99.  team's recent world championship, a tree will be planted at the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  Botanic Garden a garden devoted to the culture of plants collected for the purpose of illustrating the science of botany.

The tree, a native South American floss silk silk that has been twisted, and which retains its loose and downy character. It is much used in embroidery. Called also floxed silk.

 (Chorisia speciosa Bombacaceae), will be dedicated to the young players from the Conejo Valley who won the Big League World Series final in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., against Venezuela last week.

``I thought there should be something long-lasting to commemorate the team,'' said Lillian Davies, a Botanic Garden volunteer for 15 years and grandmother of team player David Turner (person) David Turner - Professor David A Turner. One of the pioneers of functional languages. He designed several languages, including, SASL (1976), KRC (1981), and Miranda, many of which were implemented using combinators and the S-K reduction machine which he defined. . ``Being that this is the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden, and the team was from the Conejo Valley, I thought it was an appropriate thing to do.''

Barbara Song, vice president of the Botanic Garden, said this is the first time a youth baseball team has been the focus of a dedication ceremony there.

``This rounds out the community involvement,'' said Song, who agreed that although other youth groups and schools had been involved with tree-planting ceremonies, this was a first for a local sports club A sports club, athletics club or sports association is an eclectic institution oriented to multiple sports, which fields many teams and has varied sports departments in several sports, working under the same umbrella organization. .

The tree also will be dedicated to the memory of the father of team center-fielder Brian Forkin - Mark Forkin - who died after a 2-1/2-year battle with cancer. Brian's father missed his son's team's world championship win against Venezuela.

The Conejo Valley Botanic Garden is located at Conejo Community Park, adjacent to Dover and Hendrix avenues in Thousand Oaks. The garden features 35 acres of local and exotic floral and garden species from the United States and international countries, including 150 fruit-bearing trees and bushes.
