Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a to kick off your shoes and kick up your heels at the Julian Grape Stomp Festa at the Menghini Winery. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, visitors are invited to help stomp two tons of grapes in an authentic wooden stomp barrel. In addition, Italian bands will entertain, strolling singers and musicians in traditional Italian costumes will roam the grounds, and there will be Italian food, merchandise booths and bocci ball competitions. Island art show If art, wine and a balmy island appeal to you, Catalina Island may be the place to visit Sept. 20-21. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, Crescent Avenue, the main street that runs along Avalon Bay, will be filled with exhibits for the 39th Catalina Island Festival of Art. Everything from pottery and photography to sculpture and arts and crafts will be featured. Admission is free. Also, the second annual Catalina Island Wine Festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 in the garden courtyard of the Pavilion Lodge on Crescent Avenue.
