TRANSMEDIA NETWORK INC. ANNOUNCES RECORD SECOND QUARTER AND SIX MONTH REVENUES; EARNINGS

 NORTH MIAMI, Fla., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Transmedia Network Inc. (NASDAQ: TMNI), which owns and markets a restaurant charge card offering 25 percent savings on meals, today announced record revenues and earnings for its second quarter and first six months ended March 31, 1993.
 For the second quarter, revenues were $8,320,036, earnings were $465,246, and earnings per share were $.11, compared to $6,113,410, $422,419, and $.11, respectively, for the same period in 1992.
 Total revenues for the second quarter included net sales of $7,843,294, compared to $5,682,781, membership and renewal fee income of $411,452, compared to $277,738, and continuing franchise fee income of $65,290, compared to $32,891 in the second quarter of 1992. The company had no initial franchise and license fee income in the 1993 second quarter, compared to $120,000 in the second quarter of 1992.
 Revenues, earnings and earnings per share for the six-month period were $15,910,914, $1,019,906, and $.24, respectively, compared to $11,044,860, $707,743, and $.19, respectively, for the same period in 1992.
 Included in revenues for the six-month period were net sales of $14,805,944, membership and renewal fee income of $789,672, initial franchise and license fee income of $200,000, and continuing franchise fee income of $115,298, compared to $10,379,597, $483,787, $120,000, and $61,476, respectively, for the same period in 1992.
 According to David Weinberg, Transmedia's chief financial officer, "The increase in net sales is particularly gratifying in light of March `storm of the century,' which most adversely affected restaurants in our major base of operations in the Northeast, causing a drop-off of approximately $300,000 in net sales or about 1 cent per share in earnings for the quarter."
 More than 1,800 restaurants and 152,000 cardmembers have joined Transmedia's program to date. The company, established in 1984, derives its income from membership fees, franchise fees, and cardmembers' use of The Restaurant Card which makes available to cardmembers food and beverage credits issued to the company by restaurants in return for cash advances used by these dining establishments for a wide variety of needs.
 Headquartered in North Miami, Fla., where Transmedia runs its Cardmember Service Center, the company also operates in the metropolitan New York City area, Boston, and Philadelphia and surrounding area, including Delaware. In addition, five franchised operations cover most of New Jersey; Chicago; Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia; California, and North and South Carolina. In December 1992, Transmedia signed an agreement for a licensing arrangement in the United Kingdom and Europe, subject to closing July 1993.
