TRANSMEDIA NETWORK ANNOUNCES RECORD FIRST QUARTER REVENUE, EARNINGS; REPORTS 94 PERCENT INCREASE IN EARNINGS

 NORTH MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Transmedia Network Inc. (NASDAQ: TMNI), which owns and markets a restaurant charge card offering 25 percent savings on meals, today announced record revenues and earnings in the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, with revenues of $7,590,878, net earnings of $554,660, and earnings per share of 13 cents, compared to $4,931,450, $285,324, and 8 cents (A), respectively, reported in the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991.
 Total revenues for the period included net sales of $6,962,650, compared to $4,696,816, membership and renewal fee income of $378,220, compared to $206,049, and continuing franchise fee income of $50,008, compared to $28,585 in the first quarter of 1992. An additional $200,000 in initial franchise and license fee income also was reported in the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992.
 Melvin Chasen, Transmedia's chairman, said, "The company's growth continues to reflect rising cardholder and restaurant interest from established as well as new areas in our expanding geographical base. In addition, Transmedia's growing national presence has brought with it a wider selection of restaurant choices for members who travel."
 In line with national expansion, Mr. Chasen announced Transmedia began doing business in Boston in January 1993, the third area to be serviced by company operations. The other two areas include the metropolitan New York and tri-state region and Southeast Florida.
 In addition to these company operated areas. Transmedia franchises are now active in the following locations: most of New Jersey; Philadelphia and surrounding area, including Delaware; Chicago; Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia; and the San Francisco Bay area. In November 1992, Transmedia announced the sale of a franchise for North and South Carolina and, in December, 1992, the company signed an agreement for a licensing arrangement in the United Kingdom and Europe.
 More than 1,600 restaurants and 135,000 cardholders have joined Transmedia's program to date. The company, established in 1984, derives its income from membership fees, franchise fees, and cardholders' use of the executive savings card which makes available to cardholders food and beverage credits issued to the company by restaurants in return for cash advances used by these dining establishments for a wide variety of needs
