TRANSMEDEX WEB HOLTER PROVIDES 3-D VIEW OF HEART.

TransMedEx, Melville, N.Y., a provider of telemedicine monitoring and diagnostic services diagnostic services,

, is now offering a Web-enabled Holter Monitoring Holter Monitoring Definition

Holter monitoring is continuous monitoring of the electrical activity of a patient's heart muscle (electrocardiography) for 24 hours, using a special portable device called a Holter monitor.
system, the only such device that can generate 12-leads of EKG EKG: see electrocardiography.  data from a 3-channel recording using only five electrodes.

The enhanced Holter provides diagnostic data of comparable quality to a standard 12-lead EKG, which requires 10 electrodes. The reduced number of patches of the Web Holter insures patient comfort and mobility. Test data is available to physicians via a secured Internet site using a standard browser, saving both patients and physicians valuable time.

A 12-lead view of the heart is the industry standard for assessing the electrical conduction Noun 1. electrical conduction - the passage of electricity through a conductor
photoconduction, photoconductivity - change in the electrical conductivity of a substance as a result of absorbing electromagnetic radiation
system of the heart, enabling physicians to identify the exact location of weakened heart muscles, as well as providing more comprehensive data on arrhythmias and ischemia. The 12-lead technology also provides additional diagnostic data on transient anginal episodes, as well as the detection of silent ischemia. Data quality is enhanced by the monitor's reduced artifact A distortion in an image or sound caused by a limitation or malfunction in the hardware or software. Artifacts may or may not be easily detectable. Under intense inspection, one might find artifacts all the time, but a few pixels out of balance or a few milliseconds of abnormal sound , or extraneous "noise," as the five electrodes are secured to bony points on the patient's torso.

"This is the state of the art in digital ambulatory electrocardiography electrocardiography (ĭlĕk'trōkärdēŏg`rəfē), science of recording and interpreting the electrical activity that precedes and is a measure of the action of heart muscles.  and patient comfort," said Yvonne F. Manfra, R.N., B.S.N., CCRN CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse
CCRN Certification In Critical Care Nursing
, Clinical Nurse Supervisor at TransMedEx's Cardiac Monitoring Lab. "The 3-channel 12-lead technology gives doctors a three-dimensional view of the heart, making the correct diagnosis faster and easier, while also speeding up the appropriate interventions. It's a major advance in mobile testing. Patients can go on with their lives as doctors get the highest quality, most comprehensive test data available. "

A traditional, single-channel Holter monitor Hol·ter monitor

records each heartbeat during a 24-hour period. The pager-sized, light-weight Web Holter provides full cardiographs from its five electrodes, and can run up to 48 hours on a single AA battery. By getting comprehensive test data as the patient goes about his daily routine, doctors are able to get an even more realistic profile of the heart than provided by the standard EKG, which uses the same 3-channel, 12-lead technology but requires the patient to be tied to a stationary monitor.
