Work is expected to begin this month to add 146 parking stalls to the center. Since it opened in April 2005, the parking at the center has consistently been at 85 percent to 90 percent of capacity. Without the additional parking, the center was expected to reach 95 percent to 100 percent of capacity by January. In addition to the improvements already planned, Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, announced that $250,000 has been included in the House-passed Transportation-Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill for the Palmdale Transportation Center's parking facilities. "The center provides a great service to residents, travelers and commuters, and I, personally, would like to see it remain at its pinnacle," McKeon said in a statement. Palmdale officials are hopeful the funding will remain intact when the House of Representatives and the Senate iron out differences between their versions of the bill. "If it passes, it'll be welcomed," said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. "It'll provide relief."
