TRANSCO ANNOUNCES TRANSIT FOR WINDOWS, ENHANCES DOS PRODUCT

HOUSTON, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation (TGPL), a subsidiary of Transco Energy Company (NYSE: E), today introduced Transit(R) for Windows, an electronic reservation system that runs on the customer's computer as a Windows application. The company also introduced an enhanced DOS version of Transit(R), TGPL's electronic reservation system, for customers not using Windows.
For customers whose personal computers run Microsoft(R)Windows, Transit(R) for Windows combines the ability to do business with TGPL electronically with the benefits of the easy-to-understand format of Windows. Using Transit(R) for Windows, customers can perform a variety of tasks simultaneously, such as editing a memo or a spreadsheet while connected to Transit(R).
To continue serving existing customers, Transit DOS 4.0 is being introduced today for customers not converting to Transit(R) for Windows. Transit DOS 4.0 has many new benefits, including the capability to download multiple documents, enhanced modem support, data compression for faster file transfer and an on-line print command that allows the customer to print documents without first exiting the system.
"Our customers now have a choice of which Transit program they use," said Robert W. Best, president and chief operating officer, TGPL. "Customers who choose not to convert to Windows can use our new and improved DOS version. With both options available, we can better support all of our customers."
Best added, "In addition to enhancing our customer support, this represents a major step toward meeting the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's goal as described in Order 636. The programs announced today further advance our progress in making electronic bulletin boards easy to use."
Transit(R) for Windows will be introduced through live demonstrations today and tomorrow at the Natural Gas Transportation Association and Natural Gas Association of Houston's Gas Fair, held at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center.
TGPL owns and operates 10,000 miles of pipeline extending from the Gulf of Mexico to New York City, including the largest gas gathering system in the Gulf. Transco Energy Company transports natural gas through its interstate pipeline systems to markets in the eastern and midwestern United States, arranges for the transportation and sale of natural gas throughout the United States, and is active in independent power generation and natural gas vehicle fueling services. Transco also maintains modest positions in other energy-related businesses.
