 TRANSCANADA MAKES NEW FACILITIES APPLICATION
CALGARY, British Columbia, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to

customer requests for increased long-term firm transportation service, TransCanada PipeLines (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary: TRP) applied Friday, April 3 to the National Energy Board for permission to construct $499.5 million worth of new pipeline loop and compression facilities on its Canadian mainline transmission system at various locations in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. The facilities applied for include 366.1 kilometers of pipeline, 42.8 megawatts of new compression to provide new services totaling 227 million cubic feet per day. If approved by the NEB, construction of the facilities would commence in January, 1993 and be substantially completed in 1993 and 1994. The new facilities would be cost-effective and would not increase TransCanada's toll to its customers.
TransCanada has commenced environmental impact assessments on the proposed facilities, and has advised affected landowners, communities, government departments and public interest groups through an Early Public Notification process which forms part of the extensive preparations required for an NEB public hearing into the application.
