TRANSCANADA FILES 1994 TOLLS APPLICATION WITH NEB

CALGARY, Alberta, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. today announced it has filed its 1994 tolls application with the National Energy Board, requesting marginally lower tolls to be effective Jan. 1, 1994.
TransCanada's application requests a 4.9 percent increase in revenue requirement for 1994 ($1,608.2 million for 1994 compared with $1,533.9 million in 1993). Overall system throughput is forecast to increase and the application requests an Eastern Zone toll of 86.904 cents per gigajoule, down from 87.053 cents in 1993.
The application also requests a rate of return on common equity of 12.75 percent on a common equity ratio of 30 percent.
TransCanada anticipates that a hearing will be held in the fall, but hopes it will be short, since an industry task force has been working to address issues of concern in the application.
TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. is one of North America's leading transporters of natural gas. TransCanada also operates significant complementary businesses in natural gas marketing, gas-fueled electric power generation, gas liquids extraction and carbon black manufacturing.
