TRANSAMERICAN SIGNS CONTRACT TO MANAGE MOBILE, ALA., LANDFILL

 HOUSTON, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- TransAmerican Waste Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: WSTE) announced today that it signed a contract with the Solid Waste Authority of the city of Mobile, Ala., for the management of the city's waste disposal. The disposal operations consist of the Chastang landfill and the Hickory Street Transfer Station. The company expects that the solid waste generated from the city of Mobile will produce revenues of approximately $40 million over the life of the contract. This waste represents less than 15 percent of the solid waste generated in Mobile County.
 The Chastang landfill sits on a 367 acre site of which 80 acres are currently permitted and occupied by landfill operations with another 55 acres to be permitted for future expansion. The landfill, located 19 miles north of Mobile on State Highway 43, is the only municipal solid waste landfill in Mobile County which has a population of approximately 400,000. TransAmerican will take over operations on Oct. 11.
 Tom J. Fatjo Jr., chairman of the company stated, "This contract further demonstrates TransAmerican's ability to effectively provide a solution to independent operators and governmental entities that are facing financial constraints due to a growing number of waste disposal regulations."
 TransAmerican Waste Industries, Inc. is an environmental solutions company involved in the transportation, processing and disposal of non- hazardous solid and industrial waste.
