: A) today announced that STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor company, has successfully implemented the Agilent 93000 SOC Series Test System to enable high-speed testing of 10 Gbps multiplexer/demultiplexer communications devices Typically refers to a terminal used to send voice, video or text. Mobile phones, wireless PDAs and personal computers equipped with microphones, speakers and cameras are all considered communications devices. See modem. .

Using the Agilent 93000 high-speed test solution, STMicroelectronics can now test these SerDes devices for emerging 10Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub. , OC-192 standards at speeds of up to 10 Gbps both at probe and package level, allowing the company to meet the wired communications market demand for access to improved high-speed data. This work was jointly done by ST and Agilent Test Engineers.

"The wired communications market is continually challenged with finding ways to increase data traffic using existing cable infrastructures," said Piero Silvano, Wireline BU Director, STMicroelectronics. "The Agilent 93000 is a single scalable platform that protects our investment long term, while its high-speed test capabilities enable us to test our high-speed network solutions at-speed to meet increasing market demands."

STMicroelectronics utilizes the Agilent 93000 SOC Series to provide a high-speed test solution for applications in the wired communications market that enables them to test SerDes devices at 1.25 Gbps on the parallel side and up to 10 Gbps on the serial side. The embedded Inserted into. See embedded system.  solution for testing 10 Gbps on automated test equipment (ATE) helps STMicroelectronics to substantially reduce the manufacturing cost of today's SONET devices and to integrate the high-speed SerDes cells into larger ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  designs.

"We are proud to be working with STMicroelectronics, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, to help them meet their high-end test requirements," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "STMicroelectronics' choice reinforces the success of a single scalable platform that enables our customers to introduce leading-edge technology to the market without an added investment in a new ATE platform."

The Agilent 93000 SOC Series is a single scalable platform that meets the needs of mixed signal system-on-chip (SOC) production testing with data rates up to 1.25 Gb/sec, overall timing accuracy (OTA (Over The Air) Refers to any wireless system such as AM/FM radio and network television that uses open space as its transmission medium. ) of +/- 200 ps and standard configurations of up to 1,024 digital pins. The test processor-per-pin architecture of the 93000 SOC Series, by design, minimizes generated jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  and is a proven feature of the platform and necessary for high-speed testing. The 93000 SOC Series also includes integrated, high-performance analog instrumentation. Its combined digital and analog test capabilities make the 93000 SOC Series ideal for testing the most demanding mixed-signal SOCs comprising analog, digital, memory, RF and mixed-signal capabilities.
