TRADE NEWS: Agilent Technologies Advanced Design System 2002 Enables RF Designers to Shorten Development Time.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers PALO ALTO Palo Alto, city, California Palo Alto (păl`ō ăl`tō), city (1990 pop. 55,900), Santa Clara co., W Calif.; inc. 1894. Although primarily residential, Palo Alto has aerospace, electronics, and advanced research industries. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2002 Agilent Technologies This article needs sources or references that appear in reliable, third-party publications. Alone, primary sources and sources affiliated with the subject of this article are not sufficient for an accurate encyclopedia article. Inc. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :A) today introduced its Advanced Design System (ADS) 2002, electronic design automation (EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. ) software that features advances in simulation technology and usability for engineers creating RF designs. The release reaffirms Agilent's commitment to deliver powerful MMIC (Monolithic Microwave IC) An integrated circuit used in high-frequency applications such as mobile phones. Also known as "monolithic microwave/millimeter-wave IC," MMICs combine transistors and passive devices (resistors, capacitors, etc. (monolithic microwave integrated circuits), RF Module and RF design solutions that boost productivity and shorten the time it takes to get designs to market. ADS 2002 is tailored for system and circuit design engineers developing all types of RF designs from simple to the most complex, from discrete RF/microwave modules to integrated MMIC for communications and aerospace/defense applications. Advances in the software over the previous release include three new capabilities being offered for the first time in commercial EDA software: co-simulation with layout components, a verification model extractor, and new simulation technologies that provide greater levels of simulation performance. The software also offers a new filter DesignGuide that synthesizes lumped-element filters for RF/microwave circuit design using a wizard-like user interface for design specification, tolerance/sensitivity analysis, auto-simulation and interactive response tuning. "ADS' new features significantly boost the functionality, ease of design and ease of use of ADS," said Larry Lerner, Agilent EEsof EDA R&D manager. "This is especially helpful to MMIC designers wrestling with the challenges associated with increasingly complex designs and time-to-market pressures. ADS 2002 is unmatched in its modeling and simulation capabilities." ADS 2002 includes the following key capabilities and technologies: -- Co-simulation with layout components, which bring physical electro-magnetic (EM) effects into the schematic environment. The co-simulation feature breaks down the barriers between electrical and physical analysis domains. This enables designers to incorporate layout artwork in schematic environments for concurrent analysis of circuit performance along with critical physical (electro-magnetic) effects. Co-simulation uses the industry-leading EM simulator, ADS Momentum, and all of its features including RF mode for fast analysis of electrically small circuits and arbitrary polygonal mesh for high levels of accuracy and speed. -- Verification model extractor, which extracts system-level verification models from device-level circuit designs. The extracted models offer simulation speed improvements up to 10 times faster than earlier ADS versions for designs with 10 or more active devices. ADS 2002 enables even faster simulation for larger designs when verifying circuit designs with today's complex wireless modulated signal formats using Agilent ADS Circuit Envelope simulator. The software provides verification models and extractors for amplifiers, voltage-controlled amplifiers, mixers and I/Q modulators and demodulators. -- Improved simulation performance, which increases simulation speed, more efficiently utilizes memory and provides analysis capabilities for the most challenging and strongly nonlinear designs, shortening product development time. Enhancements include advances in the DC convergence algorithm, advanced memory utilization for harmonic balance simulations, faster transient (HF-SPICE) simulation in the only SPICE simulator created for microwave circuit design, and algorithm advances to the Krylov HB pre-conditioners. ADS 2002 features a new Shur-Complement Krylov HB pre-conditioner and a Krylov HB capability for circuit envelope and oscillator simulations. ADS supports the following operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. : Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98/NT 4.0/2000/; HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family.
