Marlee Lauffer, a Newhall spokeswoman, said her company sponsored about a dozen hearings before Los Angeles County planners since October 1996 and hosted community task force meetings in both counties.

``We've been able to respond to all the issues identified by Ventura County,'' she said.

The project would sit on approximately 12,000 acres of land between the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. With 200 of those acres in an unincorporated portion of Ventura County, north of Piru, supervisors are considering a lawsuit to halt the massive project if their concerns are not addressed.

``If they don't listen to us, I guess we'll have to get a judge,'' said Schillo.

Lauffer said the developer hopes to break ground around the year 2000. She said the project would be developed in increments over a 25-year period.
