TRACOR RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR NAVY IDENTIFICATION SYSTEMS

 CALIFORNIA, Md., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor Applied Sciences, Inc. announced today it was awarded a five-year contract (including options) with a total value of $36.7 million by the Naval Regional Contracting Center, Philadelphia, to provide engineering and technical services to the Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Activity, St. Inigoes, Md., in support of shipboard and shore-based Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems and programs.
 Under the contract, Tracor Applied Sciences employees in the Electronic Systems Division will perform engineering and analysis support, fleet support, and logistic and material control for existing and new identification systems.
 "This follow-on contract is the latest awarded during 19 years of continuous support for the Identification Systems Division of the Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Activity. This award demonstrates continued strength in our core communications-electronics business area. Identification systems, in particular, are growing in importance as the U.S. Navy's mission transitions to a more littoral strategy," said K. Bruce Hamilton, president, Tracor Applied Sciences.
 More specifically, Tracor employees will perform hardware and software design engineering for emerging IFF systems and equipment, test and evaluation services including new ship classes, and tasks involving performance analysis, problem identification and solution, and maintenance engineering for new and existing systems. They will provide rapid response emergency and scheduled technical support to ships and shore installations worldwide, laboratory and field testing and evaluation, and logistics support. They will also operate and maintain several IFF systems test beds and laboratories.
