 TRACOR RECEIVES $4.5 MILLION NAVY CONTRACT
 AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor Applied Sciences, Inc.


announced today that it has received a U.S. Navy contract with a total potential value of $4.5 million to develop and demonstrate a neural network processor which will identify various sounds in an ocean environment.
 "The three-year program will culminate with an operational demonstration of this multibeam acoustic signal detection system to the Naval Command Control and Ocean Surveillance Center, Research, Development, Test and Evaluation Division which contracted the work," said K. Bruce Hamilton, president of Tracor Applied Sciences, a subsidiary of Tracor, Inc.
 Employees in the Tracor Applied Sciences' Analysis and Applied Research Division in Austin, Texas, will perform the work, under the direction of Homer E. Wieland, division vice president and general manager.
 "The contract, which includes options, is the second for Tracor to receive in the field of neural technology which involves the development of computing devices that emulate biological neural capabilities," Wieland said.
 The program will be managed by James W. Whiteley and performed by Steven D. Beck, Larry M. Deuser and Russell A. Still.
 Tracor provides a broad range of technological products, systems and services for diverse government and commercial markets. The company is a significant engineering and support contractor in communications and sonar; a leader in the development and production of electronic countermeasures systems and other advanced defense electronics; and a major source for comprehensive flight testing, training and aircraft modification services.
