TRACOR AEROSPACE RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR COUNTERMEASURES EQUIPMENT

AUSTIN, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor Aerospace, Inc. announced today that it received a contract at a not-to-exceed price of $20.8 million to provide 3,800 AN/ALE-47 sequencer switches to upgrade the reliability, maintainability, and effectiveness of ALE-40 countermeasures dispenser systems on board U.S. fighter and cargo aircraft and helicopters. This initial order is part of a planned U.S. Air Force procurement of 10,000 to 14,000 sequencer switches, one of the line replaceable units of the tri-service ALE-47 system.
The ALE-47 is a threat-adaptive, flight-line, software-programmable system capable of dispensing chaff, flares, active radio-frequency decoys, and other expendables from military aircraft to reduce combat losses in sophisticated threat environments. The system is in production for U.S. Air Force F-16 and C-130 aircraft, several international F-16 customers, and for other aircraft and helicopters.
"The ALE-47 sequencer switch upgrade requires no modification to the aircraft or the remainder of the ALE-40 system," said George R. Melton, president, Tracor Aerospace. "The installation of the sequencer is the first stepi?n upgrading the aircraft's ALE-40 to a full ALE-47 system."
Employees in Austin, will produce the ALE-47 sequencer switches with deliveries beginning in September and continuing through 1995.
The switches will be installed on aircraft operated by the following customers: Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserves, Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Mobility Command, and Air National Guard. The switches also will be installed in the Pylon Integrated Dispenser Systems being procured for F-16 aircraft by the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
