TRACK AND FIELD: MT. SAC STARTS FELIX'S SEASON.

Byline: MATTHEW KREDELL Staff Writer

Some of Allyson Felix's best high school memories happened at the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill.

Mt.
 Relays.

It's where, three years ago as a student at L.A. Baptist, she broke Marion Jones' national junior record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.51 seconds, a feat that directly led to her opportunity to turn professional out of high school and run in the 2004 Olympics, where she won a silver medal.

Mt. SAC was a meet she targeted, the point at which she wanted to be hitting her stride.

When she returns Saturday to Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut for the elite/open segment of the invitational, she will have different priorities. She wants to have fun and warm up for the season.

She won't even run her signature 200 meters, choosing instead to run only in relays.

That's the difference between the prep and pro portions at Mt. SAC. For the preps, it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  to heat up for the season's stretch run. For the pros, the season is just starting.

"I definitely remember in high school this was one of the key meets," Felix said. "Now it's like the first meet out. You're just kind of looking to have a good time. But it's nice to have the first race at home, just get out there and get comfortable again."

Some elite athletes began competition Thursday, when the steeplechase steeplechase

high jumper Amy Acuff, sprinter Monique Henderson and thrower Jessica Cosby (Cleveland High of Reseda).

Along with next month's more competitive adidas Track Classic at Home Depot Center, Mt. SAC is one of two meets in which area runners can run near home.

"It's a special place," Felix said of Mt. SAC. "It's just really familiar. It's a fun place to come back to and remember stuff. I always enjoy coming back.

"I don't get to run at home often, so it's nice for family and friends to be able to come out and watch."
