TRACK & FIELD SOUTHERN SECTION DIV. Felix, born and raised in southern California, is also a devout Christian and is the daughter of an ordained will not try to become the first athlete to win California state track titles in the 100, 200 and 400 meters in the same season. Felix proved she could do the difficult 400-100 combination Saturday at the Southern Section Div. IV prelims at Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. She ran the top wind-legal prep girls' 100 time in the nation this year with a 11.39, less than a half-hour after running the second-best time nationally (she holds the first) in the 400 with a 52.90. But late in the meet, her L.A. Baptist of North Hills sprint coach went to the meet manager and scratched Felix from the 400 for next Saturday's Southern Section finals. ``I wanted her to run for selfish self·ish adj. 1. Felix left the decision to her coach, who had theorized about her tripling at state after Felix broke Marion Jones' national junior record in the 200 at the Mt. SAC Sac: see Sac and Fox. SAC - 1. But she also had made it clear she would rather drop an event. ``There's really no need to (triple),'' Felix said. ``I don't want to jeopardize jeop·ard·ize tr.v. jeop·ard·ized, jeop·ard·iz·ing, jeop·ard·izes To expose to loss or injury; imperil. Felix will be a top contender to win the 200 at the national championships in June. ``She has earned it to call her own shots,'' Patton said. ``I think whoever wins the 400 at state will know there's a faster girl out there.'' Felix won her heat but did not place first in time for the 200. That honor As a verb, to accept a bill of exchange, or to pay a note, check, or accepted bill, at maturity. Of course, Felix, who set the world junior record two weeks ago at 22.11, could have run faster if needed. Olear finished second to Felix in the 100 with a wind-aided 11.82, her personal best under all conditions, and third in the long jump in 17 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Winners in each heat and the top times up to ninth place advance to the next round. Though she has years of running against top junior competition, Olear was nervous in her first Southern Section qualifying meet. ``It is still intimidating in·tim·i·date tr.v. in·tim·i·dat·ed, in·tim·i·dat·ing, in·tim·i·dates 1. Felix's teammate, Erica Fleming, advanced in three events. She finished first in the 300 in 46.40, fourth in the 100 hurdles with a 15.67 and eighth in the 100 meters with a 12.42. Treani Swain from Oakwood of North Hollywood wanted a chance to run against Felix in the 400 next week. Swain, who has run the third-best time in the state behind Felix, placed second in 55.19. ``My coach has been telling me to finish better in the last 20 meters, and I didn't do it,'' Swain said. ``I'm kind of disappointed. It was slower than I wanted.'' Swain used her 400 performance to motivate her in the 800, where she placed first with a personal-best time of 2:15.18. |
