 TRAC CONSUMER SURVEY FINDS MCI'S FRIENDS & FAMILY
 LOWEST COST PLAN
 WASHINGTON, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Friends & Family, MCI Communications Corporation's (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) most popular savings plan, ranks as the lowest cost residential restricted calling option, according to a survey released today by the Telecommunications Research & Action Center (TRAC).
 The survey results were published in "Tele-Tips", a bi-annual publication of TRAC. The TRAC findings issued today stated:
 -- "MCI's Friends & Family Option continues to be the plan of choice for consumers whose friends and relatives subscribe to or are willing to change to MCI. Analysis shows that MCI's Friends & Family option ranked as the lowest cost plan in the most number of categories averaging a savings of 30-50 percent from the highest cost plan on the chart."
 Last year's TRAC survey touted MCI's Friends & Family as the "Hot Tip" and, again, ranked it as "the lowest cost residential calling option at all calling levels in the TRAC chart."
 MCI's PrimeTime option combined with Friends & Family was also ranked as the Lowest Cost Plan in the Average Use and Heavy Day Use categories.
 According to Jacci Gruninger, TRAC staff associate, "Consumers should take time to figure out their calling patterns and choose a plan that best fits that pattern (which) can save (them) anywhere from 30-60 percent on their long distance calls."
 Timothy F. Price, senior vice president of sales and marketing for MCI Consumer and Commercial Markets, said, "We endorse the findings of this year's TRAC survey and are pleased that they recommend to consumers that they sit down with their bills to determine their calling patterns.
 "Friends & Family, with more than 7 million customers, continues to be the plan 'of choice' for the consumer who wants savings. Individuals who leave another carrier for MCI will realize those savings with Friends & Family."
 Friends & Family, a service offered exclusively by MCI since March 1991, gives consumers a bonus savings of 20 percent on long distance calls to active members of their Circle of Callers, which consists of from one to 20 friends and family members who are currently MCI customers, or who choose to become MCI customers.
 Customers may also include one international phone number and receive a 20 percent savings every time they place a call to that friend or family member. Friends & Family is available 24 hours-a- day, from members' homes all across the country, and anywhere the United States with the use of the Friends & Family Card.
 TRAC, a non-profit membership organization based in Washington, promotes the interest of residential telecommunications users.
 MCI, the nation's second largest long distance provider, offers residential savings through a number of services and products including: Friends & Family; MCI PrimeTime, MCI Personal 800; MCI Around the World; MCI Messenger; the MCI Card and the Friends & Family Card.
