TOYOTA REPORTS MARCH MONTH-END SALES

 TORRANCE, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A. Inc., today reported its March 1993 sales, with TMS Executive Vice president Yale Gieszl, noting continued strong sales of truck and sport utility vehicles.
 "Even in a down market industrywide, our dealers report a growth in truck and sport utility vehicle sales, while our core models -- Camry, Corolla and Tercel -- are doing well," Gieszl said.
 In the last 10 days of March, 4Runner sales were up 11.6 percent from the previous year at 1,442 units. 4Runner calendar-year-to-date (CYTED) sales of 9,066 represent a 4.3 percent increase over the previous year's CYTD sales figure. The Land Cruiser also is selling well, despite a lack of supply. CYTD Land Cruiser sales were up 6.4 percent from the previous year to 2,031.
 Toyota pickup sales increased 4.2 percent, to 8,738 in the last 10-day period of March over the previous year, with CYTD sales up 19.2 percent to 46,712 from the previous year.
 Toyota's total U.S. car sales for March 1993 were 55,641, down 17 percent from March 1992. Calendar year-to-date (CYTD) sales at 145,295 represent an 11.4 percent decline over the same period last year.
 Toyota sales of North American-built vehicles were up in the last 10 days of March from the previous year to 18,463, with CYTD sales of 98,221, increasing 17.3 percent from the previous year. CYTD, the percentage of Toyota vehicles sold in the United States that are built in North America increased from 33.7 percent in 1992, to 42.5 percent.
 Lexus division's car sales during the last 10 days of March 1993 surged 20.4 percent from the previous year to 3,869 units. ES 300 sales jumped 24.7 percent to 1,587.
 There were nine selling days in the last 10-day sales period of March 1993, the same number as the previous year.
 For the total month of March 1993, there were 27 selling days, one more than the previous year.
