TOYOTA INTRODUCES NEW U.S.-SOURCED DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota is introducing for worldwide sale a new diagnostic tool to help automotive service professionals obtain quick, accurate information on engine performance, vehicle emissions and a variety of other systems and components.
Called the Diagnostic Toolset, the hand-held tool was developed jointly by Toyota and Vetronix Corp. of Santa Barbara, Calif. It incorporates the latest technology available to accommodate changing diagnostic needs and vehicle systems throughout the next decade. The Diagnostic Toolset also complies with new governmental regulations requiring industry-wide standard diagnostic procedures and technologies called On-Board Diagnostics (OBD).
"With in-depth, detailed access to engine data, the Toyota Diagnostic Toolset with OBD offers the technician the most advanced scan-tool technology available for Toyota and Lexus vehicles," says Richard Gallio, group vice-president of parts, service and U.S. products at Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A. Inc. "In addition, this new tool reads trouble codes and engine data from any manufacturer's OBD-equipped new vehicle."
Far beyond the engine analysis capabilities of the government- mandated OBD requirements, Toyota's Diagnostic Toolset provides complete analysis for Toyota and Lexus vehicle systems such as electronically controlled automatic transmissions, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, theft deterrent and supplemental restraint (SRS) air bag systems.
In addition, Toyota developed two new capabilities for the Diagnostic Toolset -- the ability to provide noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) analysis and a single trace oscilloscope to aid technicians to diagnose any electrical system on a vehicle.
The Diagnostic Toolset will be used nationwide by Toyota and Lexus service professionals beginning this fall. Because it can also be used for trouble shooting all years and models of Toyota and Lexus vehicles as far back as the 1989-model year, it is envisioned that the Toolset will be utilized by dealership and independent service technicians on a wide scale.
Orders have already been placed in Canada, Brazil and Taiwan, and Toyota expects worldwide sales of the unit to increase to other areas including Europe and the Middle East.
