TOWN PANEL STALLED BY SQUABBLING.

Byline: SUE DOYLE Staff Writer

AGUA DULCE Agua Dulce is Spanish for "sweet water". It also refers to various locations:

In Mexico:

them, two recently elected Agua Dulce Town Council members were officially sworn into office Wednesday -- 22 days after voters went to the polls.

Elodie Buck and Terry Leonard took their seats at the table with four other members following a round of applause inside the Agua Dulce Women's Club.

The good feelings didn't last long, however: The session was abruptly cut short after jeers jeer

erupted from the audience about the way the council was handling the meeting.

Buck and Leonard, who won the June 6 election for two seats on the advisory panel to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San , took their oaths before some 40 residents.

Lacking a four-member quorum at two previous meetings, the pair's installation had been delayed, an action Antonovich called ``reprehensible'' this week during a hearing about the Agua Dulce Air Park. Controversy about the small air strip has fractured the council and the rural community living around it.

``Yay Yay - Yet Another Yacc ! We're in,'' Buck said after the meeting. ``We'll try and make things better.''

However, council members didn't stay in their seats for long that night.

Anger erupted from the audience after some members recommended taking a 10-minute break to read the council's bylaws The rules and regulations enacted by an association or a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management.

Bylaws may specify the qualifications, rights, and liabilities of membership, and the powers, duties, and grounds for the dissolution of an
and charter. The review is tradition on the council.

But resident Dee Holland argued it was also customary that the reading happen aloud, so the community can discuss and better understand what the rules are.

A handful of residents in the back of the room then heckled the council.

Following the 10-minute break, the council rejoined at the table, only to end the meeting abruptly after continued jeers from the audience.

Tensions remain high in the community following a 4-1 vote by county supervisors Tuesday to approve an expansion proposal at the air park. Five of the seven council members did not want to see growth at the 50-year-old airport.

meetings but came to the one Wednesday, the night's events were a blur.

``I'm stunned at what I saw,'' he said. ``I'm not sure what the heck went on.''
