TOURS, ETC. : CATTLE DRIVES LET CITY FOLK HEAD 'EM UP, MOVE 'EM OUT.

Hankerin' for a city slicker experience? Laredo Enterprises in Havre, Mont., is sponsoring weeklong cattle drives in May, with participants helping wranglers gather cattle for branding, inoculations and ear tagging.

Guests, who do not have to have riding experience, are issued their own horses and ride the range each day, bedding down in tents and bunkhouses by night. The price of $1,329 per adult, $999 per child (aged 4-12) includes the horse, accommodations, meals and entertainment. Shorter treks are available at $249 per adult per day ($159 per child per day). A little closer to home, the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown, between Red Bluff and Lassen National Park in Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern , is offering spring and fall cattle drives to help raise money for the mustangs.

The sanctuary is a government-authorized haven for wild horses Wild Horses may refer to:
  • The Wild Horse (Equus ferus) that roamed Asia and Europe.
  • Mustang (horse) the wild or feral horse of the Western United States.
  • Feral horses, free-roaming descendants of domesticated horses.
 and burros rounded up from public lands. The May 16-18 drive will see participants gather cattle and move the herd to seasonal pastures at a higher elevation. Three full days and nights of activities - including use of a horse, barbecue dinners, live music and accommodations in an Old West camp - are included in the $495 cost. Bring your own horse and deduct $100. Dates for the fall drive are Oct. 11-13.

Opera odyssey: An 11-day tour to the Italian Lakes district, including tickets to three performances at the Verona Opera Festival, is planned by the Sacramento Opera Association.
