TOUR TO SHOWCASE VENTURA `SOHO' : LOCAL FINE, FUNCTIONAL ARTISTS TO OPEN STUDIOS TO HOLIDAY SHOPPERS.Byline: Patricia Hesselbach Special to the Daily News Fine and functional art will predominate Saturday's Holiday Artwalk, with more than 40 stores, restaurants, museums, galleries and artists' studios sponsoring a potpourri of exhibits and events. The collaborative effort between artists and merchants is a showcase for high-quality creations that gives artists the opportunity to expand their visibility. From 5 to 9 p.m., shuttles will transport visitors from location to location, or holiday shoppers can tour the sites independently. Along the way, Artwalk aficionados can sample food, entertainment and a healthy helping of holiday cheer. Every flavor of the spectrum will be on display in the range of sculpture, mixed media, word art, glass, and wearable art Wearable art, also known as Artwear, describes the making of individually designed pieces of usually hand-made clothing as artistic expressions. Pieces may be sold and/or exhibited . Many sites, themselves, are expected to complement the artwork with their own unique histories and personalities. Michele Chapin of Stone Works Studio said there is never too much art, nor are there too many places for it to be seen. The enthusiastic sculptor shows her work in every thinkable venue, from county fairs to concert halls. ``I found myself promoting my work, then it sells, and I have to get to work again,'' said Chapin, whose marble bowls and vases are popular items. Chapin considers herself part of a west Ventura cooperative arts neighborhood. ``We're making culture here.
