TOUR OPERATOR OFFERS 'LUXURY' CAMPING TRIP IN AMAZON RAIN FOREST

RIVERSIDE, Conn., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Get Lost! Adventures has scheduled a trek in Ecuador's Amazon rain forest. Accompanied by a naturalist and a support staff of 15, 8 tour participants will hike on forest trails and ride in dug-out canoes on remote lakes and rivers, observing and learning about the complex ecosystem and its inhabitants.
At night tour members will sleep at fixed campsites in tents set up on thatch-covered platforms, complete with foam pads and fresh sheets. Gourmet food and wines are prepared and served by the support staff who also carry participants belongings from campsite to campsite. Members only have to carry a daypack in each day's hike.
Says Get Lost! Adventure's Director, Ralph Salomon, "Imagine spending the day hiking through the rain forest, observing the birds, plants and animals, then arriving at the campsite where hot hors- d'oeuvres and your favorite cocktail await. This trip allows you to experience the rain forest in the way I think Hemingway would have done it. Any person in reasonably good condition and with a sense of adventure can easily do this trip."
The Ecuador trek is one of Salomon's new series of adventure trips that range from river expeditions of Honduras's Mosquita region and whitewater rafting in Costa Rica, and Guatemala to horse trekking in Belize, Ecuador and Costa Rica, and cultural explorations of Ecuador.
The trek is scheduled from Nov. 8 - 16, 1993. The cost is $1,524 per person. The 9 day/8 night tour includes 6 nights camping, 2 nights at the Hotel Colon in Quito, Ecuador's capital, roundtrip air transportation from Quito to the frontier town of Coca, all meals while on trek and airport transfers. Airfares to and from Ecuador are not included in the cost, but will be arranged by Get Lost! Adventures.
