TOUGH SENTENCE POSSIBLE IN FRAUD.

John has been held without bail since his arrest Dec. 7 at his home.

He will be sentenced May 7 and faces a maximum of 22 years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $750,000.

John pleaded guilty Monday before U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins to charges of conspiracy to defraud the government with respect to claims, embezzlement embezzlement, wrongful use, for one's own selfish ends, of the property of another when that property has been legally entrusted to one. Such an act was not larceny at common law because larceny was committed only when property was acquired by a "felonious taking," i.  and identity theft charges.

John is accused of reporting fictitious gambling winnings and withholding amounts, the IRS report said. The gambling winnings were detailed on the false tax returns from various Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  horse-racing tracks. John and accomplices used stolen identifications including one from a dead person to file the claims, Moriarty said in the release.

Money from the scheme was moved through several bank accounts belonging to other individuals, some of whom were paid for participating, the release said.

In his plea, John admitted he and a co-conspirator filed false income tax returns with the IRS, claiming fraudulent refunds of at least $449,084.
