Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Quartz Hill High coach Bernard Nichter didn't mince words.

His team's 66-64 Golden League loss at Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
was, he said, ``one of the best, most incredible high school games I've ever seen.''

Sparked by Shawn Lett, Quartz Hill surged to a 21-13 first-quarter lead in the league opener, but Antelope Valley erased the deficit by halftime, and the game see-sawed the rest of the way. Lett finished with 28 points.

``We had our chances to win, but by the end it was like a coin flip,'' Nichter said. ``It could have gone either way.''

The game featured six slam dunks and numerous momentum changes. The key for Antelope Valley was rebounding; Antelope Valley Christian transfer Tez Brown, at 6-foot-7 the tallest postman POSTMAN, Eng. law. ``We just couldn't keep those two off the boards,'' Nichter said.

Lancaster: Palmdale welcomed Lancaster to the varsity Golden League circuit by outscoring the seniorless Eagles 24-4 in the first period on the way to a 77-50 rout. Lancaster certainly didn't help its own cause with 32 turnovers, 14 in the decisive first stanza stan·za

Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards.  Brady Chelette, counted on to give Lancaster outside scoring, was held to five points. Meanwhile four Palmdale players reached double figures.

``Brady was forcing his game a little bit, and we were sloppy,'' Lancaster coach Nathan Gilmore said. ``I really don't think we were nervous. It's a repetition thing. We have to practice like it's a game.''

Lancaster slipped to 4-11 overall, while league favorite Palmdale moved to 10-6.
