An organized local touch football league where he can indulge his lifelong love of the gridiron sport.

``I've been playing since I was 5 years old,'' said Rizzo, 34. ``I was always in leagues back in Baltimore. Lately I've played in pickup games where I could find them.''

Yearning for a more organized system, Rizzo is setting up the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Touch Football League, debuting in September and based at the Castaic Sports Complex.

While fees and schedules are still being hammered out, Rizzo, a bartender and Stevenson Ranch resident, expects to have eight teams ready for the inaugural season, with at least 10 players on each game-day roster.

``It's like the pickup games at the park, but it'll be organized,'' he said. ``And it will be cheaper than those baseball leagues and softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  leagues, absolutely.''

Unlike the pickup games, however, organizing a league requires much more than rounding up a few friends and a football on a Saturday. Rizzo has researched various sites and, as required, has gone through the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Department of Parks and Recreation for permission and insurance purposes.

``I've been all over this valley to find some place to play. Then I found the Castaic Sports Complex. They will line the field for me and the (player) fees will go toward maintenance, materials, things like that,'' Rizzo said.

After communicating with the Sports Complex staff, Rizzo designed a Web site that explains the league and offers an e-mail link for questions and sign-ups.

``This is going to be very organized. Everything is on the Web site,'' he said. ``I'll keep weekly stats. There'll be a championship. I'm naming the championship trophy after Jake Kuredjian, as a community honor.''
