TORI SPELLING'S UNREALITY SHOW CELEBRITY'S EXTRAORDINARY YARD SALE CAN BE VIEWED AS SHOT AT MOM.

A two-day sale

The same could be said of the hundreds of shoppers who are expected for the two-day sale, which actually has as much in common with the typical garage sale as a celebrity does with a 9-to-5 working stiff, though television fashionista Steven ``Cojo'' Cojocaru did have some fun with what was going on.

``Attention, Kmart shoppers!'' Cojocaru at one point announced into a mike in front of Spelling's house as his ``Entertainment Tonight'' cameraman rolled videotape.

``Price check on Aisle 4, for Tori Spelling's silver spoon,'' he joked in another on-camera stand-up stand·up or stand-up

At her 56,550-square-foot, 123-room Holmby Hills estate, mom Candy Spelling -- estranged from her daughter even before Aaron's death at age 83 -- has to be more outraged than ever.

``I had to break away from the past and be ready to start anew,'' Spelling told People magazine this week about her yard sale. ``It's out with the old, in with the new.

``I'm having the sale because we're moving and my taste has changed. Plus I'm a notorious pack rat pack rat, rodent of the genus Neotoma, of North and Central America, noted for its habit of collecting bright, shiny objects and leaving other objects, such as nuts or pebbles, in their place; also called trade rat or wood rat. . I keep everything.''

A representative said Spelling would not have any additional comments.

No bargaining

When it comes to her possessions, Spelling doesn't appear to be the sentimental type. She sold her invitation to former ``Beverly Hills 90210'' co-star Jason Priestly's 2005 wedding for $5 to Heather Bagan of Los Angeles.

``There's also lots of memorabilia from (Tori's) first wedding,'' said TV producer Jennifer Noble of West Hollywood, whose purchases included a ``So NoTORIous'' first-season script for $100. ``(But) they're not bargaining.''

All the while, Tori was hanging out in a green silk maternity top and jeans, her long blonde hair down, sipping designer bottled water.

She was surrounded by what professional estate sale organizer Sharon Yost said were Spelling's belongings that ``represented 15 years of collecting, buying and designing'' and TV series cameras filming shoppers asking for the prices on clothes and later paying for items with cash or credit cards.

``When's the last time you were at a garage sale where you could pay using your Visa?'' asked Mathew Wallace of Palmdale, who bought Tori's custom-made roller skates for $25, a rubber duck for $5 and a Furby toy for $25.

The only surprise expressed by most shoppers, who were herded in 20 at a time and were usually slow to leave, was the petite size of Spelling's apparel -- especially her size 51/2 shoes.

But Spelling's tiny jeans were perfect for Tiffany Michaels of Beverly Hills, who bought them for $60, along with a purse for $125 and a dominatrix leather whip for $20.

And, of course, everyone wanted into this roadside attraction.

Enter Cojucaru, decked out in an orange shirt and striped purple tie under a tweed jacket.

``Is this for charity? Or does it go to Tori?''

``It's for Tori,'' he was told by an estate worker.

Which, of course, was why antiques dealers had been sent the usual notices that go out in advance of estate sales.

Richard Ramirez, who works for an antiques shop in Santa Monica, paid $1,600 for four pieces of vintage Louis Vuitton luggage -- and said he expects to sell it for twice that amount.

Most shoppers spent considerably less and, like Roz Kupfaman of Chatsworth, who bought three pieces of Murano glass for $100, left carrying their items in white shopping bags adorned with ``Tori Spelling Estate Sale'' logos.

They're moving out

Around 11 a.m., with the reality-show cameras rolling, a representative for the homeowner, David Levian, came out to the front yard and planted a red and white ``for lease'' sign for the four-bedroom, three-bath house, which Spelling and her husband are leaving after almost a year.

The new season of ``So NoTORIous'' has Spelling and McDermott leaving Los Angeles to open a bed-and-breakfast.

Fifteen minutes later, again with the TV cameras rolling, McDermott himself pulled up in his slate-gray Land Rover, causing momentary chaos on the narrow street.

``Is this crazy or what?'' a smiling McDermott said to shoppers waiting in line outside his house. He posed for photographs, then announced, ``It's getting too hot for me out here'' before heading indoors.

As he had all morning long, retired LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
2. LAPD - Los Angeles Police Department.
Officer Rick Groller, who now regularly works security for on-location filming, moved the hordes of cameramen and photographers back out of the street.

``This is actually pretty easy today,'' Groller said. ``All the show needed to do was hire one of us.''

Low-budget. Sure. This was what all this had been about, wasn't it? It was a yard sale episode, and most shows would have had to hire hundreds of extras to pose as shoppers.

Not only had Tori Spelling gotten all those extras for free. She got them to pay her for working on her show.

Bet not even the old man ever did that.
