DISPLAY FOR WILT:

With flags lowered outside the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., dozens of visitors paid respects to Wilt Chamberlain on Wednesday at a special display in his honor. The exhibit was quickly assembled following Chamberlain's death Tuesday at 63. The memorabilia featured sneakers, jerseys and his uniform from his 100-point game in 1962.

OLYMPICS

BID PROBE:

Atlanta's Olympic bid will be under the microscope today in Salt Lake City as the House Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations begins hearings on bid practices. Several high-profile Olympic officials, including IOC director general Francois Carrard and IOC vice president Anita DeFrantz, are expected to testify.

BASEBALL

DYKSTRA ARRESTED:

Former major-league Lenny Dykstra was arrested in Simi Valley and charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and child annoyance involving a 17-year-old girl.

FRONT-OFFICE MOVES:

After spending one year heading up the Dodgers' minor-league system, Bill Geivett was promoted to assistant general manager, Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone announced. Jerry Weinstein, a Beverly Hills High and UCLA product, takes over for Geivett as the director of player development. Weinstein spent the past season as the Dodgers' roving catching instructor. Geivett, who was an assistant to the general manager, will still be involved in player development decisions but will also coordinate all professional scouting.
