TOP CONSULTANT GLEASON JOINS EDS

DALLAS, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS announced today that H. Michael Gleason, one of the most highly regarded consultants practicing in today's competitive global business environment, has joined the information technology company to run its rapidly growing consulting business.
Gleason, 52, managing partner of Coopers & Lybrand's Management Consulting Services Group in New York, has assumed the position of EDS corporate vice president in charge of worldwide consulting operations. He reports directly to EDS' governing body, The Leadership Council, which is presided over by EDS Chairman, President and CEO Les Alberthal.
"EDS has become a major player in the critically important area of business consulting," said Gary J. Fernandes, EDS director and senior vice president. "We are delighted that someone of Mike Gleason's reputation, ability and demonstrated understanding of how consulting can improve business performance is leading our consulting team."
Gleason, who helped build Coopers & Lybrand's extensive consulting practice, said he was "very excited" about joining EDS and "having an opportunity to direct a first-rate, global consulting practice."
"The marriage of management consulting with EDS' strong technology and process management capabilities is a powerful set of client services from which to continue the growth of EDS," Gleason said. "EDS has made some major moves in the area of consulting in the past three years and is well-positioned to achieve the same kind of high standing in the area of business consulting that it has had for more than three decades for its achievements in the information technology industry.
"It is clear that EDS is committed to providing consulting services of the highest-possible quality in order to improve the business performance of its thousands of customers around the world. I welcome the opportunity to be a part of that commitment."
EDS has dramatically expanded its business consulting practice in a wide variety of industries in the past three years and currently has more than 100 consulting engagements under way around the world. Revenues from consulting have more than tripled at EDS in the past two years; and in June, the company announced it had reached an agreement to purchase BEI Golembe, a leading financial-industry consulting firm. Among EDS' service offerings in the area of management consulting are business information planning, business process design, resource management, technical advisory services and change management.
At Coopers & Lybrand, Gleason directed both the industry and functional consulting staffs and operated under the philosophy that "a consulting leader belongs on the playing field with his clients and his team building value." Before becoming managing partner for the firm's New York Metro Region, he served as manufacturing partner-in-charge for the Management Consulting Services Group.
Gleason joined Coopers & Lybrand in 1986. Before that, he was vice president and director for materials management for Revlon Group, Inc., which he joined in 1978. Prior to that, he held senior management positions at Xerox Corp. and at Eastman Kodak Co.
Gleason is a graduate of the State University of New York and is a member of the Graduate School Advisory Board at Columbia University. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Conference Board and the Sales and Marketing Executive Association.
EDS has operations in more than 30 countries, employs more than 70,000 people and is the leader in applying information technology to meet the needs of businesses and governments around the globe. Stock reflecting EDS performance is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GME. EDS reported revenues of $8.2 billion in 1992.
