LONG-suffering Newcastle United supporters yesterday demanded to know why Mike Ashley Mike Ashley could refer to:
  • Mike Ashley (radio presenter), a British radio on Heart 106.2
  • Mike Ashley (businessman) - English billionaire owner of various sports-related shop chains and brands.
has not found a buyer for the crisis-hit club.

Fans were shocked to hear all potential bidders were likely to wait until AFTER the January transfer window because of the recession.

But that leaves United in turmoil, in desperate need of new players but with no money to buy them. The newly-formed Newcastle United Supporters Club wants answers to a number of key questions.

Michael Ord, NUSC NUSC Naval Underwater Systems Center
NUSC Net Universal Service Cost (basic telephony cost)
NUSC Naval Underwater Systems Command
NUSC Newport Uskmouth Sailing Club (Gwent, South Wales)
spokesman, said they have been trying to meet a club representative for weeks.

He added: "The idea that issues around the credit crunch Credit Crunch

An economic condition whereby investment capital is difficult to obtain. Banks and investors become weary of lending funds to corporations thereby driving up the price of debt products for borrowers.
 - the cause, we are told of a lack of a sale - will be resolved by February or March next year is laughable. Even the Chancellor's most optimistic prognosis suggests economic growth beginning in the third quarter of 2009 and that is half way through next close season. What state will our team be in then?"

The man in charge of the sale and chairman of investment bank Seymour Pierce, Keith Harris, admitted: "It is probably more likely to be deferred until after the January transfer window, when the financial chaos will also have settled down a bit."

But in a letter to Ashley, NUSC demand to know why he keeps claiming he did not buy the club to make money - yet says potential buyers are not offering enough? Why he reportedly failed to meet a potential buyer in Dubai because they did not meet his "valuation"? And why he won't "subsidise the club further" in the transfer market?

Eight buyers who expressed an interest three months ago had been whittled down to two "very serious" contenders, both from the US. One is going through the club's books in the process of "due diligence Research; analysis; your homework. This term has caught on in all industries, because it sounds so "wired." Who would want to do analysis or research when they can do due diligence. See wired. ".

The fan group, formed three months ago, has had 6,000 expressions of interest for membership from around the world.

No one was available to comment on behalf of Mike Ashley yesterday.

The idea the credit crunch is a cause of a lack of sale is laughable
