Arizona State update: QB Andrew Walter is quietly making himself a Heisman Trophy candidate with 15 touchdowns and one interception. But the Sun Devils could have problems running the ball. They rank eighth in the Pacific-10 Conference in rushing (3.2 yards per carry) and are missing RBs Wade and Hill. The major difference from last season is the defense, which ranks second in the conference.

Injury update: UCLA DE Kevin Harbour (knee), WR Craig Bragg (shoulder), DE Justin Hickman (knee), DT Kenneth Lombard (shoulder) and LB Tim Warfield (tibia tibia: see leg. ) are out. Cal WR Chase Lyman (knee) is out.

Keep an eye on: Cal RB J.J. Arrington against UCLA's front seven. Arrington leads the Pacific-10 Conference in rushing at 144.5 yards per game. The Bruins have the third-worst rushing defense in the nation, allowing 250 yards per game. Arrington is averaging 7.7 yards per carry. ... Bruins RB Maurice Drew. He rushed for more than 600 yards during a three-game span but is coming off a 22-yard performance against Arizona after being bothered by sore legs. Drew trails only Arrington in Pac-10 rushing at 138.2 yards per game. ... UCLA DB Marcus Cassel. Teams are starting to challenge him and leave CB Matt Clark alone, and today figures to be the same. The Bears won't have Lyman, their leading receiver, but WR Geoff McArthur is capable of making the big play.

Cal update: Cal hasn't played at home since Sept. 11 and is coming off a loss to top-ranked USC in which the Bears held a 424-205 advantage in total yards. Aaron Rodgers, who completed his first 23 passes last Saturday against USC, is the best QB in the conference. He has completed 78.3 percent of his passes, going 72 of 92 for 881 yards and seven touchdowns. He has thrown two interceptions and is the third-rated passer in the country with an efficiency rating of 179.5. Cal leads the Pac-10 in scoring at 40.75 points per game.
