TODAY'S PLAYOFF CAPSULES GIRLS' BASKETBALL.

All games start at 7:30 p.m.

Division I-A

QUARTZ HILL (18-6) at APPLE VALLEY (22-5)

The river's source is in the San Bernardino Mountains near Hesperia. The West Fork of the Mojave flows into Silverwood Lake, formed by Cedar Springs Dam, which overflows in the Mojave River Forks Reserve
League-champion Apple Valley fits with its quickness. The Rebels pulled away in the second half to eliminate Saugus 69-57 Thursday in a first-round game.

Keep an eye on: Apple Valley guard Casandra Reeves. In leading the Sun Devils

  • Sun Devils, a DC Comics maxi-series
to a 14-0 league record, Reeves had 18 points, nine assists and three steals in a season-ending 84-52 rout of second-place Silverado. Quartz Hill freshman McKena Richardson, an underrated defensive player, will probably draw the assignment of guarding Reeves.

Division II-AA

LITTLEROCK (17-9) at RIM OF THE WORLD (21-4)

ST. MARY'S ACADEMY at PARACLETE (18-7)

Outlook: Paraclete, always a threat under coach Susan Hervey, shared the Alpha League championship with Village Christian. The Spirits are in a 16-team bracket and could make a run as the third seed.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Division I

All games 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND (12-7-2) at CLAREMONT

Outlook: Highland needs big performances from Lizelle Jackson and Lindsay Giampetro to pull of an upset over the third-seeded Wolfpack. Jackson has 13 goals and playmaker play·mak·er

Giampetro has eight. ``We need to play as a unit and support each other offensively and defensively,'' coach Lemuel Galvao said. ``We can't strand anyone defensively. We need to be there for each other.'' Highland could do with a little luck; five of their losses have been by one goal.

Keep an eye on: Highland goalkeeper Meghan Stewart, who has 10 shutouts.

Directions:5 fwy south to 10 fwy 10 to Indian Hill Blvd. north. School at 1601 N. Indian Hill Blvd.

Division II

VICTOR VALLEY (13-8-2) at QUARTZ HILL (18-1-2)

Outlook: Quartz Hill isn't seeded among the top four teams despite its outstanding overall record, but coach Maury Cauchon isn't bothered. ``They have their ways of doing things, and we're just playing the cards they gave us,'' Cauchon said. Junior Kellie Cox is key. She's scored 15 goals and totaled seven assists even though she missed seven games late in the season because of a sprained ankle A sprained ankle, also known as a ankle sprain, ankle injury or ankle ligament injury, is a common medical condition where one or more of the ligaments of the ankle is torn or partially torn. . When she's on, there isn't a more dangerous scoring threat in the Antelope Valley. Sophomore Stephanie True and junior Andrea Cabriales are Quartz Hill's other key scorers. True has nine goals and Cabriales has seven. Victor Valley, coached by Wayne Durity, finished third in the Mojave River League.

Keep an eye on: Quartz Hill's Karen Comstock, who's a talented goalkeeper who's registered eight shutouts. ``We have to be strong defensively,'' Cauchon said. ``We need to utilize the defense to make our offensive attack.''

Division V

MALIBU (5-12) vs. DESERT CHRISTIAN (15-5-2)

at Lancaster Soccer Complex

Outlook: Deann Matteson, one of the small-school soccer's most prolific scorers, leads seventh-seeded Desert Christian. If Matteson, a junior, is on her game and fully recovered from an ankle injury that has bothered her most of the season, the Knights should prevail. Matteson has 24 goals this season, three more than last year. Junior Tracy Schramm is the team's top defender. Malibu, 4-4 in the Frontier League The Frontier League, based in Troy, Illinois, is a professional, independent baseball organization located in the Midwestern United States and Western Pennsylvania. It operates mostly in cities not served by Major or Minor League Baseball teams and is not affiliated with either. , looks to Chelsea Koch and Lilly Sunderburke.

Keep an eye on: Erin Milligan, Desert Christian's senior goalkeeper. She's a returning second-team All-Southern Section performer.
