Keep an eye on: USC defensive tackle Shaun Cody. He gets his first career start filling in for injured senior Ryan Nielsen. USC quarterback Matt Cassel. The freshman from Chatsworth is expected to debut at slotback today. USC linebacker Chris Prosser. With Matt Grootegoed not 100 percent, Prosser makes his second start following a nice performance against Stanford. USC tailbacks Chris Howard and Darryl Poston. The freshmen are supposed to play to give Sultan McCullough a break, but in the past two games that's meant a total of four carries.

Washington update: The Huskies came out flat against California before narrowly avoiding an upset (31-28). They have won 11 in a row under coach Rick Neuheisel, and are doing it this year with new players, notably sophomore quarterback Cody Pickett (46 of 78 passing, 648 yards) and highly touted freshman wide receiver Reggie Williams (12 catches, 274 yards).

WESTERN OREGON at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  

Kickoff: 1:05 p.m. at North Campus Stadium (capacity 6,500)

Records: CSUN 0-3; Western Oregon 2-1.

Series: CSUN leads 1-0. The Matadors won 38-19 in Northridge two years ago.

Injury update: CSUN: QB Marcus Brady (shoulder), WR Anthony Ramos (ankle), OL Tyrone Tutogi (ankle) are probable;. OL Keith Kincaid (shoulder), DB Travis Campbell (shoulder), OL Ashcon Madjid (foot), DL Jason Nicastro (foot), LB Pieter Keus (knee), LB Ben Lorier (ankle) FB Ruben Gomez (knee), DB Greg Strausberg (knee) are out. WO: DB Clayton Gerry (knee), FB Mark Dreiling (knee), DL Josh Dorfler (arm) are doubtful. QB Denny Bies (shoulder), OL Dave Lovelin (back), WR Ryan Brown (ankle) are questionable.

Keep an eye on: The entire CSUN team, which received word on Monday that the program might be cut next month. Also keep an eye on the crowd - in wake of the recommendation to drop football, will there be more than last year's average of 2,740 fans? Linebacker Lewis Blanton, who leads the team in tackles (37) and is third in career tackles at 231. Quarterback Marcus Brady, who's batted a sore throwing shoulder and completed just 19 of 44 passes last week. The running game, which netted more yards (199) than the passing game (194). LB Jake Walker, who had CSUN's lone sack last week. Walker has received unexpected playing time because of injuries and has thrived. He has seven tackles, including three for loss.

Western Oregon update: Linebacker Dave Morrill had a team-high 10 tackles in WOU's 16-3 win over Southern Utah. The defense held Southern Utah to 192 yards of total offense and just three points. Punter Lucas Taroli averaged 47.6 yards on eight punts last week. Quarterback Bies left last week's game with a shoulder injury. Running back Jason Taroli had a team-high 52 rushing yards. Western Oregon beat Mesa State (14-13) in the season opener then lost to UC Davis 43-32. Western Oregon is a Division II school.

PAC-10 PREVIEWS

OREGON (4-0) at ARIZONA (3-1)

Kickoff: 6:15 p.m. at Arizona Stadium.

Matchup: All-Pac-10 CB Rashad Bauman makes his 40th career start for the Ducks. Four interceptions make CB Steve Smith national co-leader in picks. QB Joey Harrington is 18-2 as a starter. WR Keenan Howry has caught at least one pass in his last 27 games. Seven of Oregon's last 12 games have been decided by seven or fewer points with the Ducks winning all seven of them. A year ago, both teams entered the game with 5-1 records and national rankings. Oregon emerged with a 14-10 win and went on to win the Pac-10 title. Arizona, meanwhile, lost its final five games. Wildcats QB Jason Johnson and WR Brandon Marshall set a Pac-10 record by hooking up for the longest pass play in league history in win against Idaho last week. Smith has moved into 11th place on the Pac-10 career passing list with 7,850 yards. WSU is allowing just 68 yards per game rushing, and its offense is leading the Pac-10 in passing offense (341.5), total offense (517.0) and scoring offense (38.5).
