They may be thanking St. Valentine for their love connections, but Sunday they were bringing their matters of the heart to St. Mel.

Lovers' holiday celebrated on February 14, the feast day of St. Valentine, one of two 3rd-century Roman martyrs of the same name. St.
, 200 couples who have been married for more than 25 years were honored in Woodland Hills at St. Mel Catholic Church, named after an obscure Irish saint.

Clarence and Alma Young, an Ocean Park couple in their 90s, said they owed their 68 years of matrimony MATRIMONY. See Marriage.  to some hoofing and strong convictions.

``When we first started, I danced like a horse,'' remembered Clarence Young, who met his bride at a paint store. ``But Alma was a good dancer, and I learned from her.''

 secret of a successful marriage was simple.

``A lot of patience and a lot of golf,'' Pat Andre said.

The Andres came to mass with Pat's parents, who were celebrating their 50th anniversary.

``It's a double deal for us,'' said Pat's mother, Lee Corn.

Corn met her husband, Fred, in 1945 on a December day. The two were Christmas shopping in Seattle. She caught his eye, and his shiny Marine Corps uniform caught hers.

``All women love men in uniforms,'' Lee Corn said.

They were married 18 months later. They now live in Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. , but plan to return to Seattle to renew their vows.

Karl Rydgren spent most of his youth chasing his junior high sweetheart.

``She didn't like me at first,'' Rydgren said about his wife, Alice. ``But I grew on her. And she caught me.''
