 O'DONNELL NAMED CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER OF COLUMBIA SYSTEM
 WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of The Columbia Gas System, Inc. (NYSE: CG) has named Senior Vice President Michael W. O'Donnell to be chief financial officer of the corporation effective immediately.
 He replaces R.A. Oswald who will be leaving the company to pursue other interests and resigning from the corporation's board of directors.
 O'Donnell has served as the Columbia System's assistant chief financial officer since October 1989. He joined Columbia in 1971 and was elected vice president of financial services for the System's Service Corporation in 1983. From 1987 to 1989, he was a senior vice president for Columbia's distribution companies with responsibility for finance, rates, government affairs and information systems.
 Oswald joined the Columbia System in 1969. He became assistant chief financial officer in 1985 and chief financial officer in 1988. He was elected executive vice president in 1989.
 The Columbia Gas System is one of the nation's largest natural gas systems. Subsidiary companies are engaged in the exploration, production, purchase, storage, transmission and distribution of natural gas and other energy operations such as cogeneration. The Columbia Gas System, Inc., and its principal pipeline subsidiary, Columbia Gas Transmission Corp., have been operating as debtors in possession under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code since July 31, 1991.
