TKLP SELECTED TO DESIGN NEW FDA MARYLAND CAMPUS

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The General Services Administration (GSA), National Capital Region, has announced through their new design excellence initiatives that The Kling-Lindquist Partnership, Inc. (TKLP) has been selected as the architect-engineer for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Campus Facilities.
TKLP's Chairman and CEO Mel Sotnick commented, "We are very pleased to be chosen for this most important project. Our full-service design firm has substantial experience serving the government and the food and drug industries throughout the United States and the world. As one of the world's leading designers of this type of facility, we look forward to partnering with the Federal government to bring this exciting project to fruition and help position the FDA for their key role in the 21st Century."
The Montgomery County, MD, project is part of a program begun nearly four years ago. The total process will result in a complete campus development by the year 2003 with five separate construction phases. Once completed, the campus will provide approximately 2.6 million gross square feet of building area and house about 5,700 employees.
As the GSA noted regarding the new FDA campus, "Modern and efficient laboratories, office buildings, and support facilities will provide a new home for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, the Center for Biologic Evaluation and Research, and the Office of the Commissioner. Today, the agency is housed in more than 40 buildings in 18 different locations throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area -- a situation which has created significant administrative and operational inefficiencies."
The GSA National Capital Region has identified the "Preferred Alternative" for this FDA campus as a site known as the Clarksburg Triangle. Located just off I-270 at Route 121, this 539-acre parcel is bounded by I-270, Clarksburg Road, and Old Baltimore Road, Montgomery County, MD.
TKLP has selected a team of consultants distinguished in their own right to assist in this most prestigious and significant project. Leading this consultants' team is RTKL Associates Inc., of Washington, DC, who will support TKLP in the planning, site utilization, and architectural, engineering and interior design. Additional key consultants are Greenhorne & O'Mara, Devrouax & Purnell, and Roy F. Weston, plus other specialty consultants for critical areas of planning, design, cost and schedule control.
While based in Philadelphia, TKLP has a Washington, DC office located in the District's central business area at 1211 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20036.
Committed to Total Quality Management, TKLP is the largest architectural/engineering/interior design and consulting firm in the Philadelphia area according to the Philadelphia Business Journal and is ranked 11th in the country by Building Design & Construction.
Since its founding in 1946, TKLP has built a portfolio of more than 4,500 projects totaling more than 15 billion dollars in constructed value, including recently completed design of three 1.5 million square-foot, greenfield-site pharmaceutical research laboratory campuses -- Glaxo, Inc., Research Triangle Park, NC; Sterling Winthrop Inc., Upper Providence Township, PA; and Glaxo Group Research Limited, Stevenage, United Kingdom.
