TITAN AWARDED MEDICAL STERILIZATION CONTRACTS

 TITAN AWARDED MEDICAL STERILIZATION CONTRACTS
DENVER, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Titan Corp. (NYSE: TTN)

announced today that it has received two contracts totaling more than $3.5 million for electron beam medical product sterilization of disposable medical products at its planned Denver facility. The facility is scheduled to open in May of 1993 and is in final site selection.
The first contract for $2.5 million over a five-year period with an additional five-year option was awarded by American Precision Plastics, a high-volume plastic manufacturing company that specializes in thin-walled disposable laboratory and hospital products. Sterile products consist of petri dishes, specimen containers and culture tubes. American Precision Plastics, which is headquartered in Denver, operates a 72,000-square-foot injection molding plant with more than 150 employees. Its products are sold nationwide through major laboratory and hospital distributors. The company is privately owned and has sales in excess of $20 million.
American Precision Plastics' President Bill Schmidt said the company selected Titan for several reasons. "In order to be competitive in the health care industry, we must minimize sterilization costs. We need to be located close to our sterilization contractor so we can reduce freight cost. Co-location is absolutely essential so we can compete effectively.
"We also have worked with Gary Pageau, the Titan division general manager, and his technical team previously, and are very enthusiastic about working with him again. He and his team have proven expertise and have provided excellent support. We are pleased with the obvious depth of the new division and feel that the combination of technical expertise and financial depth provided by Titan along with the Denver location make this new facility ideal for us." Schmidt continued, "We like to be involved on the leading edge of technology -- and we believe that this approach to medical to medical product sterilization is the path of the future."
Titan executive Stephen P. Meyer stated, "We are delighted to work with American Precision Plastics. Our new facility uses an electron beam accelerator developed at Titan and has been designed to meet or exceed all existing safety standards. The site, when completed, will provide an example of Titan's capabilities to provide complete turnkey systems for specific applications. The Titan strategy is to provide safe and reliable machine systems as an alternative to existing radioactive material and hazardous chemical- based systems.
"These machines are similar to the cancer therapy units found in local hospitals," said Meyer. "They provide high-energy electron beams which kill the bacteria on disposable plastic medical devices without damaging the products or leaving any residue like the chemical process it replaces. Titan has combined the experience of experts in medical device irradiation process operations with the knowledge of leaders in advanced pulsed power machine technologies. Our new customers clearly indicate that this environmentally correct system is being extremely well received by the market."
The second contract, valued at $1 million over a three-year period, has been signed with another unidentified Denver medical products manufacturer.
The Titan Corp., headquartered in San Diego, is a leading supplier of customized high technology electronics products and integrated hardware/software systems to federal, state and local government agencies, as well as commercial and international clients.
